About me

Hi, I’m Amy Kramer—host of HERo Stories, Navy veteran, retired officer, and proud military spouse. For the past 30 years, I’ve served this community—as an enlisted cryptologist, a civilian nurse, a commissioned Navy Nurse Corps officer, and now, as the spouse of an active-duty service member.

After retiring from the Navy Nurse Corps a few years ago, I found that when I shared parts of my story—where I had been, what I had done—people were often surprised. It made me realize how much of our experience as women in the military world flies under the radar. And if my story caught people off guard, I knew there were countless other stories—just as powerful, maybe even more so—waiting to be heard.

Throughout my time in service and as a spouse, I’ve had the honor of working with, serving alongside, and befriending extraordinary women—leaders, caregivers, trailblazers, and quiet professionals. Many may not realize how incredible their journeys are, but I do. And I believe others will too.

That’s what inspired HERo Stories: a platform to bring these lived experiences into the light. Whether it's the challenge of moving every few years, starting over professionally at each new duty station, navigating motherhood, deployments, or trying to maintain a sense of self and purpose while supporting someone else’s mission—these stories matter. On the outside, it may all look seamless. But behind every transition is a story full of grit, planning, strength, and resilience.

This community is here to honor that. To make space for the quiet courage and powerful stories that deserve to be heard.
